Generally, each graph corresponds to a project. Private graphs are needed for each project that you don’t want to make publicly available. Note that graphs can be changed from private to public (and vice versa), and that changes of private graphs don’t count against the number your plan allows.
Modern web browsers provide good performance for 500 nodes in a single graph. So, with a Private Plan you can create 1 private graph or 5 private graphs, depending on how much nodes you put in a graph.

Collaborators are other Graph Commons members that you’ve given editing access to one or more of your graphs. You can always invite a collaborator by email, who would sign up and start editing with you.

No. You can sign up and use Graph Commons for free without entering your credit card details. When you decide to create private graphs, you will need to pick a plan and enter your credit card details.
