Videoccupy is the digital media archive of social movements in Turkey. starting from Gezi resistance -Videoccupy archive- it aims to reveal the near history of Turkey with audio-visual recordings, documentations and testimonies. means 'don't look' in Turkish. inspired by a quotation from the text by Ulus Baker; ''Normal Citizens Get Lost'... an announcement by the police. Could heart in the centre of Ankara. Citizens whom are not 'Normal' should be probably the ones who were surrounded by the police band and the tanks ready to spout water. State’s desire is definitely making them ‘disappear’ (doesn’t need a special talent) and disperse as soon as possible. However, for the first time, we are learning through a police announcement towards ‘normal’ citizens that people must be ‘lost’, ‘whisk away’, so suddenly disappear from the busiest squares and streets in the city. ‘Don’t look’. Another police announcement, just as ‘get lost!’ command, ring in the ears... ‘Don’t look!’, this command aiming the difference of a special talent of human beings; ‘to look’ and ‘to see’... Whereas human beings truly has a talent to see anything, with countless eyes (like the bees) that they are not looking at and this is unavoidable...” Ulus Baker's text titled 'Ölüm Orucu - Notlar'... is only in Turkish for now. inspired by the digital media archive - short for Public Access Digital Media Archive - is an online archive of densely text-annotated video material, primarily footage and not finished films.
